Is this the way to Amarillo....

Well, since the last blog we have travelled about 600 miles over the last two days.  As the title suggests we have made it to Amarillo, having stayed a night in Oklahoma City on route!

We've had a great time meeting some of the local residents who all love route 66, promote it vigorously and love it when a traveller stops by.  Gary welcomed us to his restored Gas Station and Mechanics Workshop, told us a lot about the road and even gave us all a free 'sody pop' - Root Beer in Route 66 bottles!  He was a top guy and obviously loved the fact that we, and also a belgium couple driving the mother road, stopped by.

We also saw MATOR from the film Cars - well it was Tator, Mator's cousin who the character in the film was based on.  Then we made it to Oklahoma (where the wind comes sweeping down the plains).  There was a little bit of singing I must admit.

Singing was followed up the next day with a certain Amarillo song as we entered the city, but not before we had 'breakfast' at JR's Family Bar-B-Q!  JR is a legendary wrestling commentator and celebrity.  Its  a long story, but via email he said that he would try to come and meet us when we made it to his restaurant.  Unfortunately he couldn't but he gave us (via the manager) free t-shirts and also free desserts (pumpkin pie cheesecake) as well!  To be honest the food there was fantastic with melt in your mouth ribs the speciality.

we then had a great journey into Texas to Amarillo.  Stopping on route at a great museum and also at the state line.

This evening we went to see a Western (Appaloosa) at the Cinema (Movie Theatre if you are American), which was great as we are in Cowboy country!

Tomorrow we leave Texas and head into New Mexico and more specifically Tucumcari!  We are getting to some of the very interesting parts of old Route 66, with the desert and the rockies ahead of us now.

Thanks for keeping up with us via the blog and thanks for your prayers for us as well.

PLEASE COMMENT ON BOTH THESE BLOG ENTRIES AND PHOTOS - IT IS GREAT TO GET RESPONSES.

God bless all...  now, we've found the way to Amarillo.....does anyone know the way out?
